Who is Anh Do?

Anh Do is one of Australia’s most inspiring success stories. In 1980, aged three, he arrived in Australia on a crowded fishing boat with refugees fleeing war-torn Vietnam. After surviving pirate attacks, dehydration and harsh conditions at sea, his family spent time in a Malaysian refugee camp before settling in Sydney.

He ran a fish-breeding business while still at school and later opened a retail store that grew to four locations. Six months from finishing a double degree in Business and Law, with offers from major law firms on the table, he chose stand-up comedy instead. He has since become one of Australia’s best-loved entertainers and one of its most in-demand corporate speakers.

Anh Do tours The Happiest Refugee through to February 2027, with dates across regional New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. The stage show adapts his memoir, combining stand-up with real-life stories, photographs and filmed pieces, and has played sell-out seasons in hundreds of locations across the country.

Anh Do on television, film and books

In 2011 Anh published The Happiest Refugee, which won multiple Australian book awards. He is also one of Australia’s most popular children’s authors, with the WeirDo, Hotdog!, Ninja Kid and Wolf Girl series. An accomplished painter, he won the Archibald Prize People’s Choice Award for his portrait of Jack Charles and hosted six series of Anh’s Brush with Fame on ABC.
